Many a foolish racist has implied that Barack Obama is too young, too "uppity" to know his place. Last night, Barack Obama showed the world how wrong these people are. He made it clear to me, and to anyone listening with an open mind, that "he gets it." He knows where he came from, understands that he has gotten where he is only because he was fortunate enough to be born in this country and no other country on earth. He hasn't nor will he forget that he was raised by hard working working/middle class grandparents and a single mother. He will govern in the interest of people just like them, just like most of us.
Indeed, Barack Obama knows exactly what his place is.
Over the weekend, a man entered a Unitarian Universalist Church in TN armed with a shotgun. The children of the congregation were putting on a performance. The individual opened fire on the congregation, killing two people. The congregation members, showing great courage and even greater restraint, subdued the individual and held him until police arrived.
This sick individual had penned a four page letter describing his motivations for cold blooded murder, which included his frustrations at being unable to find a job, his recent loss of food stamp benefits...AND HIS HATRED OF THE LIBERAL MOVEMENT.
I don't have much to say here other than I am very sad about Tim Russert's passing away. We have lost a great one in the field of political journalism. I would like a place for community members to share there thoughts and rememberances of him. If you agree, please rec this diary or post a better one. I don't mind.
Rest in peace Tim Russert. You were the face of political journalism and you lived a life that we can all aspire too - devoted to family, reaching the top of your profession, all while never forgetting where you came from.
